Job Title: Digital Communications Associate


With 3 million members, Working America mobilizes working people who don't have the benefit of a union at
work to fight for good jobs and a fair economy. As the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, we unite working
people in urban and suburban communities around a shared economic agenda.


The Digital Communications Associate will support the production of content for the organization's digital
efforts on social media, email and text messaging platforms; help create content for web and print platforms;
and help expand communications efforts in electoral and issue advocacy. The position is a fixed-term position,
with a planned end date of Dec. 14, 2018.


Reports to: Associate Communications Director


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
 Support local, state-based and national campaigns; increase member attachment; win legislative and
electoral campaigns; recruit new members; and drive messaging.
 Be responsible for individual state and/or issue advocacy campaigns and the creation of content to
support them.
 Write emails, blog posts and web content.
 Assist other staff with proofreading and supporting content creation.
 Publish content on Working America's websites.
 Interview Working America members and volunteers to develop stories to be used across
communications channels.
 Assist with background research and develop briefings on issues, candidates, funders and other topics.
 Create and execute text messaging campaigns.
 Assist with creating content for use on social media and email.
 Provide cross-functional support of all communications needs.
 Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS NEEDED:
 At least 1-2 years of campaign communications experience in a union, political or progressive issue
campaign environment required.
 Strong background in, or strong familiarity with, the labor movement, movements for progressive social
change and/or political campaigns.
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with people from diverse background and cultures.
 Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
 Demonstrated experience meeting tough deadlines and providing fast turn-around of quality
communications and working in a high-pressure environment.
 Attention to technical and editorial detail.
 Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
 Demonstrated ability to be flexible and able to adapt quickly to meet project needs.
 Ability to work long and irregular hours where necessary


PREFERRED SKILLS:
 Graphic design
 Knowledge of HTML/CSS
