Job Title: Digital Communications Associate
With 3 million members, Working America mobilizes working people who don't have the benefit of a union at
work to fight for good jobs and a fair economy. As the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, we unite working
people in urban and suburban communities around a shared economic agenda.
The Digital Communications Associate will support the production of content for the organization's digital
efforts on social media, email and text messaging platforms; help create content for web and print platforms;
and help expand communications efforts in electoral and issue advocacy. The position is a fixed-term position,
with a planned end date of Dec. 14, 2018.
Reports to: Associate Communications Director
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Support local, state-based and national campaigns; increase member attachment; win legislative and
electoral campaigns; recruit new members; and drive messaging.
Be responsible for individual state and/or issue advocacy campaigns and the creation of content to
Write emails, blog posts and web content.
Assist other staff with proofreading and supporting content creation.
Publish content on Working America's websites.
Interview Working America members and volunteers to develop stories to be used across
Assist with background research and develop briefings on issues, candidates, funders and other topics.
Create and execute text messaging campaigns.
Assist with creating content for use on social media and email.
Provide cross-functional support of all communications needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS NEEDED:
At least 1-2 years of campaign communications experience in a union, political or progressive issue
campaign environment required.
Strong background in, or strong familiarity with, the labor movement, movements for progressive social
change and/or political campaigns.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with people from diverse background and cultures.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Demonstrated experience meeting tough deadlines and providing fast turn-around of quality
communications and working in a high-pressure environment.
Attention to technical and editorial detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and able to adapt quickly to meet project needs.
Ability to work long and irregular hours where necessary
Knowledge of HTML/CSS
