Field Operations Specialist

Job Title:
 
The Field Operations Specialist will support the ongoing operations of all aspects of Working 
America's field offices and National Field Staff. The Field Operations Specialist will have 
day-to-day responsibility for a broad range of administrative, logistics, staff recruitment, and 
reporting duties. 
 
Working America, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the fastest growing 
organization for working people in the country. With more than 3 million members recruited 
since 2003, Working America recruits and mobilizes people who do not have a union on the 
job in support of working families' issues. 
 
Reports to: Regional Field Supervisor
 
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 
  • Handle all requests for and maintain an accurate inventory of field materials, office supplies, safety equipment, and literature; 
  • Help develop and implement all aspects of advanced recruitment strategy, including but not limited to establishing local relationships, publicly representing Working America, participating in job fairs, and screening applicants;
  • Work with the Information Management team to ensure reconciliation and accuracy of field data across multiple platforms;
  •  Ensure timely and accurate reports from the field and run reports to support Senior Field Staff. Analyze reports, identify trends, and make recommendations;
  • Conceive, develop, and lead projects that improve the impact, quality, or efficiency of our field operations;
  • Handle all logistical aspects of office startups and closings;
  • Assist in planning and executing logistics of meetings and conferences;
  • Manage field travel and housing needs;
  • Other duties as assigned. 
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS NEEDED: 
  • At least 2 years' experience managing logistics, administration, and staff recruitment for a national field canvass program required;
  • Strong background in, or strong familiarity with the labor movement, movements for progressive social change and political or issue campaigns;
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work well with internal and external staff at all levels;
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and able to adapt quickly to meet project needs;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in both a lead and support role;
  • Ability to work independently within the context of a plan; Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet unpredictable deadlines; 
  • Excellent problem solving skills;
  • Highly motivated;
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours;
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Excel; Power Point;
  • Familiarity with Google Documents, LAN, and National Field preferred;
  • Ability to learn new software systems as needed.
